Residents' views sought on Crewe's parks and green spaces

By Gwyn Griffiths 29th Oct 2021

RESIDENTS are being asked their views on Crewe's parks as part of a borough-wide survey.

Cheshire East Council wants to gauge opinion as it looks to update its municipal parks strategy.

It says parks and green spaces, such as the "jewel in the town's crown', Queens Park, have been vital in helping people's maintain their mental and physical health during the lockdown.

The council says its current strategy needs reviewing in light of the pandemic and is asking residents to complete a short survey.

The two key areas being looked at to improve parks and open spaces are how they contribute to health and wellbeing and the protection and enhancement of biodiversity across the borough.

Cllr Mick Warren, chair of Cheshire East Council's environment and communities committee, said: "Our teams, including our colleagues at Ansa, have worked incredibly hard to provide outstanding places for residents and visitors to enjoy - the recent Green Flag Awards are a fantastic endorsement of that work.

"That said, we are in no way about to rest on our laurels. When you see how many people are continuing to enjoy our parks, as we move well into the autumn months, it's a useful reminder that the work we are doing must continue.

"But it must continue in an intelligent way, and that's why we're very keen to learn what our residents think is needed as we move forward."

The results of the survey will help to inform how the council manages its parks and green spaces in the future.

Do you have a favourite Crewe park or green space after Queens Park?

What about Joey the Swan, Westminster Street Park, The McLaren, Valley Brook or Leighton Brook?

You can take part in the survey here by November 28.
