A SOCIAL enterprise in Crewe is taking part in a national event to celebrate the work of community businesses.

Donatable is to highlight its work on Social Enterprise Day, next Thursday, November 11.

Co-founder Debbie Owen says Donatable aims to plough part of its profits back into the community. It offers packaged programmes of promotional marketing support services to clients.

As part of the day it is running a digital campaign - #WhoKnew campaign - to showcase the impact of the sector.

Debbie adds: "As a newly launched social enterprise we're delighted to take part in the 2021 #WhoKnew campaign.

"We'll be shouting about the impact of the work our business members are supporting across Cheshire, including details of our very first 'Donatable Day' on Friday, November 12 when our members will be making an impact in the local Crewe community through an initiative with the Lighthouse Centre charity."

The Donatable team will be undertaking weeding and tidying up at the former Flag Lane Baths which is to be developed into a community hub with the government's Towns Fund investment.

In the UK there are around 100,000 social enterprises contributing some £60 billion to the economy and employing around 2 million people.

Debbie added: "We launched Donatable to help businesses to engage with their local communities and leave a lasting positive impact."

Recent figures from Social Enterprise UK have shown that in spite of the challenges posed by the pandemic, social enterprises are a thriving part of the economy.

They are outperforming traditional businesses in both growth and innovation with 44 per cent growing their turnover and 66 per cent introducing a new product or service in the last year.
