CREWE Market Hall is the place to be tonight (Thursday) to witness a colourful celebration of the Indian Festival of Light, Diwali.

The tea-time/evening event is being staged in collaboration with the Hall's Asian Food Store and will provide some great live entertainment on stage from 5.30pm.

Diwali is one of the most popular festivals of Hinduism and symbolizes the spiritual victory of light over darkness.

After an introductory speech explaining the background to the festival, there will be Indian music, a children and ladies' fashion show, a gymnastic performance and karaoke.

The evening will be rounded off with a salvo of fire crackers.

Market Hall General Manager Gary Johnson said: "In a multicultural society the Market Hall is a community hub for all and we know you will enjoy this incredible celebration."

There will also be Rangoli art work on display in the Hall.

The schedule (see below) means that for one week only, the Hall's regular Thursday night quiz will be a shortened version, starting after the Diwali festivities at 7.30pm and running to 8.30pm.

Diwali schedule:

  1. 40pm Diwali intro speech
  2. 45 to 6 Indian music
6 to 6.20 Children's fashion show
  1. 25 Kids Dance Show
  2. 40 Ladies' fashion show

7 Gymnastics performance

to 7.30 Karaoke and Tambola
  1. 30 Fire crackers (bring your own hand-held crackers).
