A person was treated with oxygen and taken to hospital following a blaze above a commercial property in Crewe, believed to have been caused by burnt food.

On Sunday 26 July, emergency services were alerted to an incident on the first floor of a business on Alton Street.

At 4.37pm, two fire engines from Crewe arrived at the scene, supported by North West Ambulance Service paramedics.

On arrival, the building was fully evacuated, with the fire out and everyone accounted for.

Crewe firefighters entered the premises with a hose reel jet as a precaution, confirming there were no flames.

The casualty was given oxygen by firefighters and passed into the care of paramedics, before being taken to Leighton Hospital.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Firefighters were called to a fire on the first floor of a commercial property in Crewe.

"The building was fully evacuated, and all persons were accounted for.

"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the premises with a hose reel jet as a precaution. The fire was out, and a high-pressure fan was used to ventilate the premises.

"One casualty was treated with oxygen by firefighters before being handed into the care of paramedics.

"This is believed to have been caused by burnt food."
