Calls for better maintenance at 'beyond substandard' Crewe Bus Station toilets
By Ryan Parker 5th Jun 2026
A local councillor has reiterated frustration at the lack of care and attention being paid to the facilities at the new Crewe bus station, which opened in May 2024.
Cllr Allen Gage (Independent, Willaston and Rope), noted the new bus station has been a welcome and wanted improvement on the previous incarnation, but expressed dismay at the condition of the men's toilets.
He has previously raised the issue publicly with full council, and personally with officers but has found little traction so far.
Cllr Gage told Nub News: "I can only speak on behalf of the men's facility, but the condition of the toilets has been beyond substandard for quite some time.
"Graffiti is being allowed to build up across every surface, and is increasingly encouraging violence and making remarks of a derogatory nature.

"The wider facility has broken toilet roll holders (which were empty once again this morning), smears near the disability handrail, boot marks beside the hand dryer and widespread grubbiness over almost every part of every wall.
"There is also paint missing in a couple of sections with bare plaster showing. Paint in splatters are viable in places.
"The baby changer is often covered in debris and not cleaned and the snap frame which should contain the cleaning rota/check sheet has been empty and seemingly unused since day one. Simply put, I have not come across a worse kept toilet anywhere in town.
"The state of the facility gives an improper and unfair first impression to those visiting or passing through Crewe, I don't believe it is reflective of the wider attitude of the town and I would like Cheshire East to take the initiative here.
"I am asking them once again, publically, to get a grip of this situation.

"There is a council building immediately opposite which is maintained and kept clean, organising a combined cleaning schedule with the bus station toilets should be simple.
"The council have maintenance operatives maintaining Delemere House and The Municipal Buildings, putting a coat of paint over the grime in the bus station toilet should be achievable.
"People have to take their children in here and I want young people to take pride in their town, not grow into adulthood with negative perspectives. We can easily do better than this."
