A Crewe councillor and local residents have called for action on a housing estate wall, damaged for two years following a car crash.

The brick wall on Rolls Avenue, near Chassagne Square, remains in a "dangerous" and "unsightly" state, says Crewe St Barnabas councillor, James Pratt (Conservative).

The incident occurred on 24 March 2023 when a vehicle left the road and crashed through the wall. Cllr Pratt and local residents have called for action from Cheshire East Council since.

On 24 March 2023, a vehicle left the road and crashed through the wall which has been left untouched since (Nub News).

Cheshire East Highways initially attended the scene and placed cones around the area, but no further action has been taken to enforce repairs.

Under the property deeds, the responsibility for maintaining the wall falls to the individual property owners.

However, some of these properties are owned by landlords who live elsewhere and have shown little interest in addressing the issue.

Cllr Pratt said: "I obtained land registry information with the help of Taylor Wimpey and ensured letters were sent to landlords, property owners, and tenants.

Crewe St. Barnabas councillor, James Pratt (Conservative) (Cllr Pratt).

"Details were provided of the vehicle involved in the crash highlighting their responsibility for repairs.

"Despite this, the wall remains in a state of disrepair, creating both a safety hazard and an eyesore for the community."

Local residents have voiced their frustration, with Stuart Price, saying: "Unfortunately, the owner has been less than forthcoming to fix it. I've tried myself to no avail."

Another resident, Yvonne Piercy, said: "When I saw the car there, I was trying to work out which way it was going. Looks like along Rolls Avenue. Too much speed."

Cheshire East Highways initially attended the scene and placed cones around the area, but no further action has been taken to enforce repairs (Nub News).

When Cllr Pratt asked for an update, the council's principal building control manager said: "The wall has been reassessed, and the condition does not appear to have altered, therefore the previous information issued remains the same.

"At this time, it would not be expedient for the council to take any further action under the Building Act 1984."
