Burger King looks set to open new drive-thru restaurant in Crewe, taking on a site already approved for a Canadian fast food chain.

This June, Burger King submitted advertisement consent for new signs at the former Frankie & Benny's/Gourmet 4 building, on Grand Junction Retail Park.

This site already has planning permission for a drive-thru, after Cheshire East Council approved Tim Hortons UK's plans last November.

Burger King's drive-thru will be constructed to the side of the current 3,250 square foot retail park unit, next to TK Maxx (Cheshire East Planning).

The coffee and bakehouse chain first submitted plans to open in Crewe last spring, but this is now off.

According to the advertisement plans, a "void area" in the new Burger King outlet is being considered as a children's play area. This is yet to be confirmed.

This development comes following a recent failed attempt for Burger King to come to Crewe.

In 2021, the American multinational chain was given planning permission to construct a new drive-thru on Market Shopping Centre Car Park.

This fell through in April 2023, when McDonald's purchased the site for £1.4 million. The fast food outlet went on to open its third branch in the town this March.

Tim Hortons UK was given permission to open a new drive-thru restaurant at the former Gourmet 4 site last November. This is now off (Ryan Parker).

The last date for submitting comments on Burger King's application is Friday 5 July, with a target decision date of Tuesday 6 August.
