Burger King has been given advertisement consent for new drive-thru in Crewe, with 21 new signs to be placed around the site.

This June, Burger King submitted advertisement consent for the former Frankie & Benny's/Gourmet 4 building, Grand Junction Retail Park.

On Monday 15 July, Cheshire East Council gave the green light to the signage, including a new Burger King totem.

Cheshire East received two letters of support and two letters of objections for the Burger King development (Cheshire East Planning).

A case officer said: "The application includes the installation of internally illuminated signs at an existing unit within the Grand Junction Retail Park.

"The signs to the building would largely replace existing or consented signs and are of similar size. The additional signs are considered to be acceptable in their scale.

"The signs within the car park are relatively discreet and are seen against the backdrop of the existing buildings, carpark and landscaping.

"The totem sign is the same height as the existing totem, and although the sign itself is slightly larger, it is considered to be appropriate in this retail park location.

"The proposed signs are of an appropriate scale and would not harm the visual amenity of the area.

"The adverts would not cause harm to the visual amenity of the area or public safety issues, and as such should be approved."

Burger King's drive-thru will be constructed to the side of the current 3,250 square foot retail park unit, next to TK Maxx (Ryan Parker).

This site already has planning permission for a drive-thru, after Cheshire East Council approved Tim Hortons UK's plans last November.

Cheshire East received two letters of support and two letters of objections for the Burger King development.

A Ford Lane resident said: "I approve 110 per cent of this, for far too long we have had too many McDonalds in Crewe.

"This will breathe some new competition into that space, as well as open up some accessible jobs.

"When the last proposal didn't go through by the old Argos I was very disappointed, so hopefully we get a Burger King soon.

"The location is Ideal for commuting to and from for workers and customers and should cause no traffic problems."

Tim Hortons UK was given permission to open a new drive-thru restaurant at the former Gourmet 4 site last November. This is now off (Ryan Parker).

Burger King's drive-thru will be constructed to the side of the current 3,250 square foot retail park unit, next to TK Maxx.

This development comes following a recent failed attempt for Burger King to come to Crewe. and one on Earle Street a decade ago.
