Britain's most luxurious locomotive will stop at Crewe this June, with passengers on-board having an opportunity to visit the world's smelliest plant.

The 1930s Pullman-style Northern Belle, once part of the iconic Orient Express, will leave Crewe for London at 7:40am on Wednesday 26 June.

Many of the 250 passengers on the Northern Belle will be going to Royal Kew Gardens, where the Corpse Flower has just come into bloom.

Passengers of the Northern Belle will arrive back in Crewe at 10:15pm (Northern Belle).

Also known as Titum Arum, the plant has a "disgusting stench" likened to rotting flesh.

Visitors have been flocking to the botanical gardens in south-west London to see the 10ft plant which is native to the jungles of Sumatra.

The Corpse Flower is kept in a special glasshouse which is always hot and humid, with the door kept firmly closed to stop the smell escaping.

A spokesman for the Northern Belle told Nub News "The Corpse Flower only flowers every two years and it is a bit of a pong, certainly not something to be sniffed at."

Passengers will be handed their first glass of champagne after boarding over a red carpet before a three-course brunch is served during the journey to London.

They will have the choice of being taken by coach to Kew Gardens or visiting Windsor and its historic castle.

In the evening, following an on-board champagne reception, passengers will tuck into a six-course dinner with wine on the way home, arriving back in Crewe at 10:15pm.

While they dine, they will be serenaded by the train's own band, while a conjuror wanders from table to table.

The train spokesman said: "We only have a few seats left, but the Northern Belle will be back in Crewe in July and August for steam-hauled trips over the picturesque Settle-Carlisle line in August.

Passengers will be serenaded by the train's own band, while a conjuror wanders from table to table (Northern Belle).

"Then in November there will be a day out to Oxford and Blenheim Palace, where Winston Churchill was born, before a slap-up Christmas Lunch trip on December 12."

Fares on the Northern Belle start at £295. For more details click HERE.
