Krazy Races, the highly anticipated free-to-attend Crewe soapbox derby, stunned attendees at a pre-event meet-up, confirming a BBC TV entertainment show is set to film it.

The launch event at Crewe Lyceum Theatre on Tuesday 16 April brought together several of the 40 soapbox teams and local businesses, filling the venue to capacity with eager participants.

Organisers exclusively revealed that BBC's flagship Children's TV show, Blue Peter, will be in Crewe on Sunday 14 July for the entirety of the Krazy Races event to film and compete.

Two presenters from the hit show will be working with two groups of youngsters within the event village of Badger Park to customise their soapboxes.

This is before the presenters take to the track during the event's lunch break to race against the clock to see who will win.

Crewe Krazy Races will take place on Broad Street, Ford Lane and Brooklands, with all of this set to be captured by the BBC camera crew.

Organisers took the opportunity to reveal further exciting details about the upcoming event and introduced the event's headline charities, Hopes & Beams and St Luke's Hospice, which were selected through a public vote earlier this year.

Attendees were given an exclusive preview of the official event map and front cover brochure artwork (featuring Crewe landmarks) and the event timetable.

Krazy Races, a renowned and award-winning national soapbox derby event, will descend upon Crewe on Sunday 14 July, with an estimated 20,000 attendees anticipated.

Crewe Krazy Races will take place on Broad Street, Ford Lane and Brooklands, with all of this set to be captured by the BBC camera crew (Krazy Races).

The event has just three remaining team spaces out of the maximum 40 teams expected to participate.

One of the event organisers, Danny Scoffin, told Nub News: "When the BBC reached out to us with the opportunity to be involved we were over the moon.

"Blue Peter is a British institution and holds a special place in our childhood memories.

"Our Crewe event has brought together so many incredible local businesses

"As a resident of Crewe myself, I am delighted this very special opportunity will give our businesses and charities the extra exposure they deserve to showcase all the fantastic work they do for Crewe."

A Crewe Town Council spokesperson said: "It's been great to hear about all the teams that will be taking part and we now have the added excitement of the BBC joining us from Blue Peter.
