SUPERMARKET giant Asda has revealed it is opening a convenience store at Basford West in Crewe.
It will be based at the Euro Garages outlet at Crewe Commercial Park off Jack Mills Way and is among 28 locations earmarked by Asda for petrol station convenience stores this year.
It follows the takeover of Asda by billionaires Mohsin and Zuber Issa from the US firm Walmart last year. The pair own EG Group with over 5,000 petrol stations across the UK and Europe.
The new Crewe Asda outlet will be branded as an On the Move store inside the EG Group forecourt and is due to open next month.
Asda has already opened five forecourt convenience stores in partnership with EG Group during a successful trial. It is aiming to open 200 by the end of next year.
Other stores opening next month include outlets in the North West at Knowsley and Skelmersdale.
Asda says each site will be have up to 3,000 square foot of retail space and stock up to 2,500 products, including fresh produce and chilled lines.
The EG Group already partner brands like Greggs and Subway.
In a joint statement Mohsin Issa and Zuber Issa said: "Our plans to rollout Asda On the Move will bring Asda to new customers, enabling them to pick up food-to-go, essentials for an evening meal, or treat themselves to premium Extra Special products."
John Fallon, Asda's chief finance officer, said: "The first phase of the rollout of Asda On the Move is an exciting next step for the business, enabling us to supply a new convenience store offer complementing our other store formats."
