Armed police were involved in an operation in the Gresty Road area of Crewe - ending without action.

Officers were in full protective gear and carrying weapons. They arrived at Crewe Alexandra FC Car Park at approximately 4:30pm on Thursday (September 21) in large numbers.

There were reports of a man with a gun on Claughton Avenue.

A drone was helping police commanders as they marshalled the operation.

Crewe Nub News arrived at the scene and spoke to armed officers.

An officer said: "This has come to nothing. We were called to a a potential threat within the community.

"Nothing has happened and the operation is now off."

Cheshire Constabulary later confirmed the incident to Crewe Nub News (September 22).

A spokesperson for Cheshire Constabulary said: "At 4.20pm on Wednesday September 21 police were called to reports of a man armed with a gun on Claughton Avenue in Crewe.

"Armed officers attended to the area and conducted a search. Initial enquiries indicate it may have been a hoax call and enquiries in relation to that are ongoing."
