Armed police officers were deployed to a housing estate in Crewe, following reports of a man with a "firearm" who was since been arrested.

On Monday 8 April, Cheshire Police received reports of an incident at The Birches, off Davenport Avenue.

At around 3pm, local officers, supported by the firearms unit, arrived at the scene.

After discovering the firearm was counterfeit, a 56-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of an imitation firearm (Google).

He remains in police custody at this time, with an investigation ongoing.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson told Nub News: "At around 3pm on Monday 8 April, police were called to a report of a man with a firearm at an address on The Birches, Crewe.

"Local officers attended, supported by the firearms unit, and a 56-year-old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of possession of an imitation firearm.

The 56-year-old man remains in police custody at this time, with an investigation ongoing (Cheshire Police).

"The man remains in police custody at this time."
