A500 closes after police talk man down from bridge near Crewe

Traffic in both directions was halted on the A500 last night (June 23), as police talked a man down from a bridge near Crewe.

Shortly before 6pm, Cheshire Police responded to concerns for the welfare of a man on a bridge above the A500 in Barthomley.

The A500 was closed from Jack Mills Way as officers engaged with the male for around an hour.

Just before 7pm, the man was brought to safety and passed into the care of North West Ambulance Service paramedics.

Around 7pm, the man came down from the Barthomley bridge and was passed into the care of North West Ambulance Service paramedics (Ryan Parker).

A Cheshire Police spokesperson told Nub News: "Shortly before 6pm on Monday 23 June, police were called to concerns for the welfare of a man on a bridge on the A500 in Barthomley.

"Police attended and engaged with the man while the road was closed as a precautionary measure.

"The man came down from the bridge at around 7pm and was passed to the care of paramedics."
