NEW disabled-friendly pedestrian crossing are being trialled along Nantwich Road in Crewe.

Cheshire East Highways say the sensor-based technology will make it easer to use for people with reduced movement as they cross the busy thoroughfare, particularly near to Crewe Rail Station.

The devices could also help the spread of coronavirus as they allow pedestrians to trigger a light sensor by holding their hands under the box rather than pressing its button,

Cheshire East Highways plans to trial the tech at other crossings in the borough this year and said: "This technology will be useful for those with disabilities and reduced movement."
