2022/23 EFL season begins - five away fixtures for Alex fans to look out for

Crewe Alexandra are gearing up to play in their first competitive game of the season - following 37-day wait since the EFL fixtures were released.

The Railwaymen kick off their EFL League Two campaign tomorrow (July 30).

All EFL fixtures for the Championship, League One and League Two were officially released on Thursday 23 June

After a five-week wait of knowing this season's fixtures - the EFL season is back.

The first 2022/23 EFL fixture starts tonight (July 29) in the Championship as Huddersfield Town take on Burnley at 8pm.

Crewe Nub News has picked five away fixtures for fans to look out for this season:

5 - Walsall FC (Saturday 17 December) - 3pm

Crewe will travel to the Bescot Stadium on Saturday - December 17 (Geograph).

Crewe Alexandra face a trip to play against The Saddlers this winter.

This 48-mile trip will see Crewe travel to the Bescot Stadium, West Midlands.

The Alex last played Walsall in February 2020 - Crewe won the away fixture 2-1.

4 - Bradford City (Saturday 27 August) - 3pm

Crewe will travel to Valley Parade on Saturday - August 27 (Jonathan Holmes).

Alex Morris will face off against former Stoke City and Manchester City boss, Mark Hughes, this summer.

This 79-mile trip will see Crewe Alexandra travel to Valley Parade, West Yorkshire.

The Railwaymen last played The Bantams in August 2019 - winning the home fixture 2-1.

3 - Rochdale A.F.C (Saturday 30 July) - 3pm

Crewe will travel to the Spotland Stadium on Saturday - July 30 (Getty).

The Alex will travel to face The Dale on the first League Two game of the season.

This 53-mile trip will see the Railwaymen travel to the Spotland Stadium, Greater Manchester.

Crewe Alexandra last faced Rochdale in April 2021 - Crewe drew the home fixture 1-1.

2 - Tranmere Rovers (Friday 14 October) - 7:45pm

The last time Crewe played at Prenton Park. The Alex will play away to Tranmere on Saturday - October 15 (Ryan Parker).

The Railwaymen will compete against the Super White Army this autumn.

This 40-mile trip will see Crewe travel up to Prenton Park, Merseyside.

The Alex last face Tranmere in March 2019 - Crewe lost the away fixture 1-0.

1 - Stockport County (Monday 26 December) - 3pm

Stockport County sealed promotion to League Two after beating FC Halifax Town 2-0 in May. Crewe will travel to Edgeley Park on Boxing Day (Dan Fosbrook).

Crewe Alexandra will travel to face this season's biggest rivals on Boxing Day.

This 34-mile trip will see The Railwaymen travel to Edgeley Park, Greater Manchester.

The Hatters were promoted to League Two this May as National League champions.

Stockport last played in The Football League in 2011. They were relegated to the sixth tier in 2013.

Crewe last played County in April 2011 - The Alex won the home fixture 2-0.

The Alex will continue to play matches during the FIFA World Cup 2022 - taking place from November 21 to December 18.

Alex Morris has so far made seven signings - a new goalkeeper is also imminent.

Defensive midfielder, Conor Thomas, right-back Kelvin Mellor, forward Courtney Baker-Richardson and midfield playmaker, Charlie Colkett and Rod McDonald all signed for the Alex before July 1.

This month, Brentford winger, Lachlan Brook, and Leicester City midfielder, Khanya Leshabela, have joined the Railwaymen on loan deals - ready for the kick-off of the new season.

The Crewe Alexandra squad will depart for Rochdale as a group, close to midday on matchday (Ryan Parker).

The Crewe manager said he his players are feeing no nerves ahead of the match against Rochdale.

Morris told Crewe Alexandra's website yesterday (July 28): "We have no superstitions and no nerves, because what will be will be."
