14-year-old boy arrested on suspicion of arson following Crewe barn blaze

A 14-year-old local boy has been arrested on suspicion of arson, following a serious blaze at a barn in Crewe countryside over the weekend.
On Saturday 12 October, emergency services received reports of an incident off Middlewich Road, Leighton.
Around 5:08pm, two fire engines from Crewe, one fire engine from Nantwich, one fire engine from Middlewich and Cheshire Police arrived at the scene.
On arrival, emergency services discovered a large out building (measuring approximately 40m x 50m) containing hay well-alight.
Crews used two sets of breathing apparatus, a portable pump, two branch holders, and a water bowser to tackle the blaze.
The incident was reduced to two pumps at around 6.45pm, with firefighters remaining at the scene overnight to allow the fire to burn out safely.
Firefighters left the scene on Sunday 13 October, with a local teenager arrested on suspicion of deliberately causing the blaze. He has since been released on bail.
The cause of the barn fire remains under investigation, with Cheshire Police officers urging any witnesses to come forward.
A Cheshire Police spokesperson told Nub News: "The cause of the fire remains under investigation and anyone with any information or video footage which may aid the investigation is urged to call 101 quoting IML-1938547.
"As part of the investigation a 14-year-old local boy was arrested on suspicion of arson, he has since been released on bail."
