A woman from Crewe is taking part in a running event this weekend to raise money for a charity close to her heart.
Becky Painter has spent the last few years volunteering with GBUltras at the ultra marathon events.
Despite having only ever run a maximum of 20 miles, she has now signed up for a 50 mile run to not only improve her own mental and physical health but to raise money for the Everybody Foundation.
Becky works for Everybody Health and Leisure and has done for the past six years, a leisure provider in Cheshire East with a foundation that aims to keep young people in sport regardless of financial constraints.
The Everybody Foundation gives clubs in the Cheshire East area the opportunity to apply for small grants on behalf of young people in order to keep them doing the sport that they love.
She said: "It was a good opportunity for me to get fitter and for me to raise some money for the foundation at the same time."
"At the point of signing up I had only ever done 10 miles so I knew that I'd got a lot to do but I'd got a year to do it."
Up until January of this year, she was well on track with this, however, she damaged three ligaments in her ankle whilst out on a training run.
She has only just started back up with training last fortnight and hopes to push herself in the race.
The Foundation have supported quite a few local clubs and individuals, sporting a different theme for various events.
With the cost of living crisis on everybody's minds, the Foundation hopes to relieve the local community of some of the pressures and barriers that young people face.
Rebecca will travel to the event which is happening in Newnham Park in Plymouth this Saturday 13th July and it involves doing as many five mile loops as she can in 12 hours.
The big goal for Becky is to do the Manchester to Liverpool Ultra 50 in 2025, a unique 50 mile heavily supported event but for now she is concentrating on the run this weekend.
She said: "It will give me a good point to see where I am ready for my goal to Liverpool in April next year".
"The team at Everybody have been absolutely amazing, they are rallying around me and all coming out and doing short little stints with me."
There is the possibility of doing Glasgow to Edinburgh in October but she's not quite sure if she's ready for that yet, hoping to concentrate on the event at hand. You can donate to her fundraiser by clicking HERE.
As of publication, £138 has been raised of the £300 so far.
