COVID-19 cases have fallen by nearly eight per cent in Cheshire East over the last week continuing the downward trend in those testing positive for the virus.

There were 226 positive tests in the borough today (Friday) and over the last week the number of cases has fallen by 124 to 1,496.

The infection rate in Cheshire East is down to 375 per 100,000 people, as recorded on November 7. That compares with 441.5 cases per 100,000 people at the end of last month (October 29).

In some areas of Crewe infection rates have fallen below 300 per 100,000 and in Crewe College/Mill Street area below 200 (at 166.2).

However, there are still some high rates in certain areas; the highest locally being at Leighton (512 per 100,000), although that is down from, 624 on two weeks ago, Crewe South West and Wistaston (509.7) and Willaston and Shavington (477).

There was one death recorded today within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test and seven over the last week.

While the latest figures show there were 36 patients being treated for Covid by Mid Cheshire Hospitals on Tuesday (November 9) this week.

Health chiefs stress vaccination offers the best protection against the virus and those eligible (over 50s and vulnerable groups) to get booster jabs are being asked to come forward.

Close to Crewe there are booster vaccinations available at Middlewich Victoria Hall tomorrow (Saturday) from 8am to midday, as well as on Tuesday, November 16 (8am-1pm) and Wednesday, November 17 (8am-7pm).
