11-goal blast from Curshaws as Crewe and District Football League returns from lockdown hibernation

THE Crewe and District League resumed after a near four-month lockdown break with table toppers Sandbach Curshaws hitting double figures.

The reopening of grassroots sports has enabled the six-club league to start up again with the opportunity to complete the season, unlike the Crewe Regional Sunday League, where team withdrawals have forced officials to null and void the campaign.

On their return Curshaws looked far from ring rusty as they thrashed newcomers Crewe Town Reserves 11-0 with Darren Bailey helping himself to five of the goals.

Sam Critchley and Ryan Simmons netted hat-tricks as the big win extended Curshaws' lead at the top to five points over Crewe Town Jaguars, who were held to a 1-1 draw by Elworth Park Rangers.

Nathan Schofield levelled for Crewe Town just before half time to cancel out an earlier strike from Connor Twentyman for Rangers.

Third-placed Mary Dendy eased to a 4-0 success over Sandbach Town although it was only in the second half that they rammed home their superiority with three goals.

Bjorn Hughes netted twice and there were singles from Liam Blackhurt and Micheal Gilligan in the home side's tally.

To complete the set of fixtures on April 3, Crewe Town's teams played each other with the first team, Crewe Town Jaguars, running out easy 7-0 victors.
