Snow has started to fall across Cheshire, with roads around Crewe and surrounding areas waking up to a wintry conditions as the cold weather grips the region.

The Met Office has already issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice across Cheshire, warning that travel could become tricky and conditions may stay cold for the weekend.

While the snow may look pretty, it can quickly lead to slippery roads, reduced visibility and longer stopping distances, especially on untreated side streets and residential routes.

Swansway Motor Group is reminding local drivers to slow down, prepare their vehicles properly and think before setting off.

A Swansway representative said: "Snow always brings a bit of excitement, but it can also catch drivers out very quickly.

"Even a light covering can make roads far more dangerous than they look. If people do need to travel, it's really important to take your time, prepare your car properly and give yourself plenty of space on the roads."

To help drivers in Crewe stay safe during the sudden change in weather, Swansway Motor Group has shared some simple winter driving tips;

  • Clear snow and ice fully - Make sure windscreens, mirrors, lights and even the roof are clear before driving
  • Check tyres and lights - Good tyre tread and clean headlights make a big difference in poor conditions
  • Slow down and keep your distance - Stopping distances increase significantly on snow and ice
  • Carry a small winter kit - A blanket, torch, water and snacks can help if you're delayed or stuck
  • Avoid unnecessary journeys - Main roads are usually treated first, smaller roads can stay icy for longer

Tyre Maintenance - Winter tyres are designed to perform better in cold conditions, staying flexible below around 7°C and offering improved grip on snow and ice.

That can mean shorter stopping distances and better control when roads turn slippery, making them well worth considering during colder months.

Swansway Motor group encourages drivers to check local forecasts, allow extra time for journeys and stick to main routes where possible while wintry conditions continue.
