Recent data from the DVLA on UK driving licences reveals Crewe is the safest Cheshire town to drive in, based on points per population.

With over 50 million drivers on UK roads, it is no secret there are plenty of drivers with points on their licence.

Points are devised to penalise those who break the law, deter dangerous driving and keep drivers, passengers and all other road users safe.

Swansway revealed there were also seven Cheshire towns in the top 20 for highest points per population (Swansway).

Motoring experts, Swansway Motor Group have analysed data published by the DVLA to find out exactly where people have racked up the most points for reckless driving.

Through their research, experts revealed there were seven Cheshire towns in the 20 for highest points per population, with only two towns appeared in the lowest 20 points per population.

Swansway Motor Group revealed Crewe had the safest drivers in Cheshire, with it ranking tenth in the lowest 20 points per population category, with Sandbach following closely in thirteenth.

Despite this positive outlook, experts also confirmed there were seven out of 20 towns in the highest points per population category, with Tarporley leading the charge in second place and Knutsford in third spot.

Other towns to feature in the top 20 include:

  • Widnes
  • Lymm
  • Alderley Edge
  • Frodsham
  • Runcorn

Swansway Motor Group revealed Crewe had the safest drivers in Cheshire, with it ranking tenth in the lowest 20 points per population category (Ryan Parker).

Experts from Swansway Motor Group told Nub News: "It's encouraging to see that the people of Crewe and Sandbach take driving sensibly, seriously, it shows a great example.

"But it's also unfortunate to see so many drivers in a concentrated area within the highest points per population.

"On top of the 50 million plus drivers on the roads, it's important to consider other road users such as motorcyclists, cyclists and pedestrians.

"Our priority on any journey should be the safety of ourselves and those around us."

Swansway Motor Group highlight some of the most common reasons for people getting points on their licence, these include:

  • Speeding
  • Using a mobile device whilst driving
  • Careless Driving – usually meaning to cause no harm but can have serious consequences.
  • Dangerous Driving – actively reckless driving or aggressive behaviour.
  • Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol

Swansway Motor Group have analysed data published by the DVLA to find out exactly where people have racked up the most points for reckless driving (Swansway).

Swansway experts said: "Points on a licence can deter people from taking unsafe actions.

"Whether this is risky driving such as speeding or driving whilst using a mobile phone, to ensuring your vehicle is well maintained and road-worthy, to getting behind the wheel after drinking or using drugs, all which could have serious consequences.

"The system is there to keep us safe and remind us to always remain sensible when behind the wheel of a vehicle."
