- Install, repair and maintain machinery and equipment as appropriate
- Implement the 5S method to ensure the workshop has all the necessary equipment required to be efficient as possible and that the workshop, cupboards and stock control are kept at the highest standard
- Organise building/engineering contractors as required for installation or repair purposes and monitor their performance against agreed specification, timescale and cost
- Provide an effective proactive maintenance and breakdown service
- Ensure effectiveness of the computerised planned maintenance system by updating the system and, in conjunction with production management, develop schedules which minimise machine downtime
- Attend the daily production meeting to discuss any Engineering issues across the plant and arrange any work as required
- Order machinery parts and spares as required and maintain an efficient control of stock
- Plan and draw up specifications, including the design of electrical installations, for any alteration to buildings/facilities and act as Project Leader
- Provide a buildings maintenance programme to include sprinklers, heating, compactors, ventilation, lighting replacement, air conditioning, purchase of fuel oil and portable electrical appliance testing, fixed wire testing, handheld extinguishers, LOLER and pressure vessels
- Liaise with Landlord to ensure full services are provided and maintained and, as necessary, represent the Company in dealings with external bodies
- Maintain fire detection equipment
- Prepare annual budget information and monthly costing reviews
- Liaise with the Finance Director regarding future costings and project work
- Identify and recommend to Head of Operations/Managing Director any improvements to plant, equipment, systems or procedures which would improve operational efficiency
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of electrical/electronic and engineering systems and techniques
- Ensure the site services ie, compressed air, lighting and heating are as efficient as possible
- Build a positive and fully supportive relationship with the engineers
- Assess employee performance on an on-going basis and via the performance review process
- Conduct departmental team briefs
- Support the training and development of engineering personnel as required
- Act as project engineer for building works and machine installations
- Provide engineering support out of hours as availability dictates
- Cover all absence of a shift engineer when necessary
- Monitor the progress of apprentices closely to ensure adequate training is provided
- Ensure there is good communication with the college for the duration of the apprenticeships
- Work in conjunction with the Health and Safety manager to ensure all COSHH/risk assessments, method statements, PUWER and SOPs are up to date and correct
- Ensure adherence at all times to the Company s Quality Assurance Policies and Procedures and maintain compliance to appropriate standards
- The quality management system has been designed and developed to meet the requirements of ISO9001, PS9000, BRC, FSC and PEFC. The quality management system defines the Company s policies and standard operating procedures on design, product security and safety, hygiene, environment, resource and training
- Carry out work safely in the interests of other employees and themselves, in compliance with current legislation and Company Environmental, Health & Safety procedures to include general housekeeping
- Any other tasks associated with this role, which are suited to the individual s abilities and level of training as directed by the Line Manager
Skills and Qualifications:
- Fully health and safety aware
- Use of maintenance systems/stock control
- PLC knowledge
- Welding
- Project managing (Desirable)
- Basic building maintenance
- 5S/lean manufacturing (Desirable)
- First Aid
- T card system
- Electrical installation
- ONC mechanical/electrical engineering
- HNC/HND electronic/electrical
- NVQ 2 and 3
- Structured apprenticeship
- 17th or 18th Edition IEE wiring regulations
- 2394/2395 installation, test and inspection
- Minimum 5 years experience on the tools
- Electrical, mechanical and pneumatic experience
- Worked under complex conditions and timescales
- Worked in a fast production environment
- Managed a team
- Project team leader experience
- Print and packaging industry knowledge
- Experience of Komori, Heidelberg, Bobst, Speedmaster and Miyakoshi machines (Desirable)
