CREWE will hand out extra punishment to Scott Robertson after a stamping incident which has drawn a three-game ban for the midfielder.

But Dave Artell is confident the on-loan Celtic youngster will learn from his mistake when he returns to the side.

The Alex boss will have to do without Robertson for Saturday's visit of Gillingham (K.O 3pm) and trips to AFC Wimbledon and Ipswich after the FA's retrospective punishment for the player's part in an incident which was missed by match officials late on in last Friday's defeat (0-2) at Bolton.

Robertson, 20, has impressed in his 14 appearances since joining on a season-long loan from the Bhoys.

But a video review spotted his stamp on an opponent at the University of Bolton Stadium and he admitted a violent conduct breach of FA rules yesterday (Wednesday).

"I remember Perry Ng doing it with the last kick of a game at Cambridge and he redeemed himself.

"So lets hope that Scott does the same when he gets back. You can't do that in a football match," said Artell, who says Robertson faces an internal disciplinary process.

"I didn't see it at the time, but I got shown it later at the game. He's going to have to serve his punishment."

The ban adds to the list of players unavailable for the Gills' clash as Crewe seek to end their torrid run of form with a first win in 11 games.

Winger J'Neil Bennett is also ruled out with a hamstring strain suffered in last week's Papa John's Trophy game with Wolves.

The Tottenham teenager could be unavailable for several weeks as are Kayne Ramsay, Travis Johnson and Callum Ainley, although the trio are making progress on their return back to fitness and Artell estimates they could all reappear within the next month.

Defender Donervon Daniels also remains sidelined with a knee injury.

Artell insists he won't be caught moaning about Crewe's mounting problems as he seeks to address a run which has left the Railwaymen six points adrift of safety at the bottom of the League One table.

"You just get on with it. I don't see the benefit of moaning as it wastes time and effort and it doesn't put you in a good place," he added. "There's a lot of things that have tested our resolve over the last few months.

"But whatever happens there's always challenges and it is how you react to them and we have to make sure we do."

The manager points out that whatever the difficulties those involved in the game need also to count their blessings.

"I tell the players sometimes they don't know how lucky they are as they could be plucking chickens ready for KFC. I'm not saying that's a bad job, but it's not as good as being a footballer in my book.

"So you've just got to get on with it."

And he added: "Every game is an opportunity to close the gap [at the bottom] irrespective of the opposition.

"We've got to make sure we know how to win. The fans have been great but it would help if we could give them something to cheer about."
