CREWE are still tracking a number of transfer targets with just three weeks to go before the 2021/22 campaign kicks off.

The Alex have already drafted in striker Chris Long, midfielder Shaun McDonald and defenders Tommy Hoban and loanee Kane Ramsay during the close season..

But assistant manager Kenny Lunt says fans should not rule out up to three more deals, although

"We might need one, two or three more players in, but we're in a good place at the moment. We've got good competition to see who we're going to start with," said Lunt.

"But we can do with getting a few more in before the season starts.

"We're working hard every day and we won't stop until we get the right players who can move us forward and make us better. We're looking at different options."

This summer Crewe were linked with Northampton's Ryan Watson, but the Crewe-born midfielder has joined Tranmere, as well as Republic of Ireland international left-back Stephen Ward, who was a free agent. The 35-year-old has since also dropped into League Two by joining Walsall.

Meanwhile, Alex fans will be back in the Mornflake Stadium for the first time since December 15 last year with tickets now on general sale for the pre-season visit of Wolves tomorrow (Saturday, K.O 3pm).

It will be Crewe's fourth pre-season outing after comfortable workouts against Nantwich last Sunday (4-1) and Wednesday night's double header at Ashton United (5-1) and Witton Albion (6-0).

Crewe assistant Lunt added: "It could be hard work for us as they are going to have the ball more than the teams we've played.

"But as long as we get through with no injuries and get fitter that's what these games are for. You learn a lot playing against these teams, how quick the ball is moved around and the tempo.

"I'm not sure which players Wolves will have playing, but we'll concentrate on ourselves.

"We can't wait to see the fans again - it's what we've been missing for such a long time."

  • For tickets for the game call the Alex ticket office on 01270 213014; there is likely to be only a limited number available tomorrow. Fans also need to read the Covid spectator code of conduct which can be found here.
