CHANGE in Crewe Alex's boardroom continued today as Charles Grant was appointed as club chairman.

The 66-year-old succeeds long-serving director John Bowler, who stepped down from the top role on March 25.

The Alex board has also elected Jimmy Rowlinson, also 66, to serve as vice-chairman.

Grant, who joined the board in the summer of 2012, became vice-chairman after the death of David Rowlinson in 2019.

The former Nantwich Town director was widely tipped to succeed Bowler after helping to facilitate the buy-out of the club's majority shareholder Norman Hassall, which resulted in the formation of a new club board and company structure in February last year.

A club statement said: "The Board of Directors are pleased to announce that Charles Grant has been elected Chairman of Crewe Alexandra Football Club and Jimmy Rowlinson has been elected Vice-Chairman of the club."
