Charlton 2, Crewe 2: late drama as Dale farms a double in the Valley
OWEN Dale's second-half double earned Crewe a well-deserved draw on their first visit to The Valley in 21 years.
After the agony of being pegged back by a 96th-minute strike from Rochdale at the weekend, it was the Alex's turn to stun their hosts deep into stoppage time with Dale squaring the contest for a second time with, again, six minutes of added time on the clock.
It was no more than Dave Artell's side deserved after they'd fought back from an early setback when Jayden Stockley headed home in Alex Gilbey's cross (10).
After dominating possession, a delightful second-half move got Crewe level. Dale flicked on Nathan Wood's pass for a neat give-and-go with Tommy Lowery inside the Charlton box; moving onto the midfielder's return and cutting inside his man to find the far corner with an impeccable finish (67).
Gilbey's close-range header from a corner edged the Addicks - who were desperate for victory to return to the top six - back in front with seven minutes left.
But it would have been very harsh on Crewe had they returned from the Capital empty-handed and Dale, who had gone close before the hosts' second, lashed a half-volley into the top corner with virtually the last kick of the game.
