A CHARITY football team from Crewe who highlight and campaign on mental health issues have launched a new fundraising walking project.

Calm 84 FC Crewe, who were founded earlier this year, are hosting 'Start Walking. Get Talking' on Saturday (October 16) at Simply Gym's car park next to the King George V playing fields.

The free fortnightly group event (which starts at 11am) is open to all generations with the aim of encouraging people to start walking and get talking about mental health.

Since their formation Calm 84 FC Crewe have played several fund-raising football matches against local opposition, scaled Snowdon and competed in the National Affinity Cup, an FA Cup-style competition for UK based charity football clubs to promote unity, togetherness and purpose.

They also host weekly training sessions at the playing fields.

The club raises awareness and funds for CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably), a leading movement against suicide.

CALM provides a free, confidential helpline 0800 58 58 58 and a webchat staffed by trained professionals as well as bereavement support.

Calm 84 FC Crewe boss Mark Dunning said: "We've had an amazing year so far raising almost £2,000 for different charities.

"'Start Walking. Get Talking' is our next side project, as we aim to get families together to get mentally and physically fit.

"Each fortnight will be a different walk around the Crewe area. Everybody of all ages and fitness are welcome. We also have some celebrity game announcements coming in November and December."
