COVID cases have surged by 20 per cent in Cheshire East as health chiefs ask people to stick to new Plan B rules.

Those testing positive for the virus numbered 197 yesterday (Thursday) according to government figures and there have been 1,879 positive cases reported in the last seven days, although hospitalisations are in line with national trends that have stayed constant.

Bentley's new test centre at Pyms Lane.

BENTLEY Motors has opened its state-of-the-art engineering test centre at its Pyms Lane site.

Operations have started at the luxury motor maker's HQ in Crewe after official approval from Britain's Vehicle Certification Agency. The firm's latest investment follows the recent recertification by the Carbon Trust marking three years as a carbon neutral site.

It would take 10 years replacing 34,000 ageing roof planks across Leighton Hospital site.

REBUILDING Leighton Hospital completely will be quicker and cheaper than repairing the ailing building.

That's the view of the chief executive of the Mid Cheshire Hospitals Foundation Trust, which runs the Crewe hospital, built in the 1970s using reinforced concrete panels (RAAC planks) in the roof which now need replacing on safety grounds.
