A van was torched in a late night arson attack on a new housing estate in Crewe.

On Sunday 5 July, emergency services were alerted to an incident on Mallow Avenue, Shavington Park.

At 11.01pm, one fire engine from Crewe arrived at the scene, discovering a work van in flames.

Crewe firefighters used two hose reel jets to put out the flames, with the vehicle sustaining severe damage.

Cheshire Police taped off the residential area while dealing with the incident.

No injuries were reported and no arrests made, with witnesses urged to come forward.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reel jets to extinguish a van that was well-alight in Crewe.

"A thermal imaging camera was used to check for hotspots, which were dampened down.

"Police were in attendance and set up a cordon while the incident was dealt with.

"This is believed to have been lit deliberately."
