Wistaston residents rang their jingle bells as part of Worldwide Christmas Eve event
THE Worldwide Christmas Jingle provided a resonating ring around Wistaston.
Mary Beggs-Reid, an estate manager from Harrogate inspired by the Clap for Carers initiative and the movie Elf, had urged people to stand on their doorstep and ring a bell for two minutes at 6pm on Christmas Eve.
After an unprecedented year blighted by the Covid-19 pandemic and now new lockdown restrictions, her hope was it would bring "magic, hope and togetherness to communities".
Among those taking part locally was Robert Richardson, of Lear Drive.
Robert, who is a member of Crewe Brass where he usually plays the drums, got two sets of sleigh bells and a school bell out to join in the salvo.
He said: "It is the one night of the year when we all act a little nicer, we smile a little easier, and we're a bit cheerier than normal.
"For a couple of hours out of the whole year, we are the people that we always hoped we would be. It is really a sort of a miracle. I guess the world would be a better place though if we could be like this every day."
