A SUPPORT group set up by a Wistaston mother to help people isolated during lockdown is producing care packs for key workers.

Nadiah Mckeown set up Community Isolation Help Group for Wistaston, Crewe & Nantwich last March and its Facebook group can now count over 3,000 members.

Over 40 volunteers from the group have helped the vulnerable and those shielding get prescriptions and their shopping over the last nine months, with Nadiah estimating over 300 local people have been helped to stay safe.

But with more help now available from public bodies, such as Cheshire East Council's 'People helping People' service, the self-help group is turning its attention to frontline workers.

After putting out a request for ideas on what it could do to help, hospital staff, care workers and community nurse responded to ask for small items such as lib balm, hand cream and sweet treats.

Donations of hand cream are welcome to soften hands rendered raw by continual washing and gelling, while a nurse at Leighton Hospital's vaccine clinic wanted donations of biscuits and sweets to hand out to patients feeling queazy after their jabs.

The group has already made 50 packs and are looking for more donations to keep the supply going.

Nadiah explained: "We have been making pamper packs for front line keyworkers and we have had an amazing response to the donations.

"I have made 50 packs so far, but we really need donations and funds to try and help as many nursers, carers and other front line keyworkers receive one of these treat packs.

"We have raised over £300 so far and have enough donations to make another 50. But we could really do with donations of items or for help at our JustGiving page to cover the cost of items."

The packs contain lip balm, hand cream, hot chocolate sachets, a candle and breakfast and chocolate bars, which you can donate or alternatively cash donations are welcome at the JustGiving page.

You can find the Community Isolation Help Group for Wistaston, Crewe & Nantwich on Facebook here.

There are regular posts about help for homeschooling and information about where you can get help and stay safe. Nadiah emphasises it is a positive group and that no negative posts are allowed.
