Wetherspoon to return to Crewe taking on closing restaurant site

Wetherspoon has confirmed to Nub News it will be returning to Crewe in 2026, acquiring the site of closing down pub restaurant chain.

The popular British pub chain will take on the Farmhouse Beefeater, Coppenhall Lane, set to close down in the coming weeks.

Wetherspoon has not had a branch in Crewe since January 2018, when The Gaffers Row, Victoria Street, closed to make way for demolition of the Royal Arcade site.

As of June 2026, Wetherspoon has over 800 UK locations, with local sites in nearby Sandbach, Congleton, Northwich and Winsford.

Wetherspoon has confirmed all Crewe Beefeater staff will be offered roles at the new pub.

This news comes after Whitbread confirmed is was closing remaining Beefeater and Brewers Fayre UK sites, across around 200 locations.

Whitbread plans to replace the majority of its branded restaurants with integrated food and drink facilities for hotel guests, with the Crewe site an exception.

A Wetherspoon spokesperson told Nub News: "We can confirm that The Farmhouse (Crewe) has been sold to Wetherspoon.

"All staff will be offered roles at the new Wetherspoon pub.

"The pub will close for redevelopment."
