A COMMUNITY group in Haslington are marking the 100th anniversary of the Royal British Legion with a poppy trail.

Volunteers at Haslington Support Group have produced a map showing where poppy displays are being placed around the village.

Residents and businesses are joining together to mount the tributes and there will be a central display over next weekend, May 14 to 16.

The RBL was formed on May 15, 1921, bringing together four national organisations of ex-servicemen that had established themselves to support those who had suffered as a result of service during WW1.

Wreaths will be displayed at various addresses from which these brave men set out to serve their country, as well as various street signs throughout the village.

A map of the poppy trail can be downloaded from Haslington Support Group's web site here, where a donation can be made to the volunteer group and to the Royal British Legion's county fund.
