Vaccine rollout has reached the under-70s: Cheshire East leader

By Gwyn Griffiths 27th Aug 2021

PARTS of Cheshire East have begun to vaccinate the under-70s says council leader Sam Corcoran.

The Labour councillor declared the vaccination programme was "going well" in the borough and that target of vaccinating all over-70s, all clinically extremely vulnerable and all frontline health and care workers by the middle of this month looks set to be met.

"Some areas have already moved on to vaccinating those under-70," said Cllr Corcoran.

"That target relates to the first dose of the vaccine, and the vaccines are not effective until a fortnight after you have received the first dose and are not fully effective after you have received the second dose.So please do still follow the rules, even if you have been vaccinated."

Additionally, he urged residents to not contact the NHS or councils about when they might have their vaccine appointment, as well as warning to watch out for vaccination scams.

Yesterday, the government announced that more than 10 million people had received their first jab of a Covid-19 vaccine across the UK, including 90 per cent of over-75s.

Cllr Corcoran also paid tribute to Captain Sir Tom Moore, who passed away on Tuesday at the age of 100, having raised £33 million for NHS charities.
