Staff shortages are putting pressure across the labour market with more jobs than applicants to fill them.

But the Crewe branch of a national recruitment agency is there to help employers fill their vacancies with the ideal candidate.

For, just like the charity boat race Pertemps Network Group took part in recently, the local team aims to make a big splash in the labour market.

Regional manager, Craig Elwell, was part of the Pertemps team racing in traditional dragon boats in the heart of Birmingham.

The Crewe branch of a national recruitment agency is there to help employers fill their vacancies with the ideal candidate (Pertemps).

He has a driving ambition to get vacancies filled – whether they be HGV drivers, warehouse pickers, office-based customer service jobs or skilled technical.

He believes the pandemic has changed the way we shop, moving towards more on-line trading and all this entails, whether it be picking orders to delivering them.

Craig said: "We're busier than ever. The pandemic has had a massive effect on the labour market and the kind of jobs available.

"We have a massive demand for HGV drivers but also everyone involved in the supply chain, from picking orders to processing invoices and other jobs.

"We're busy with all types of employers. We do have a situation where there are a lot of jobs and a perception that there are not enough people but if we know the business and we know the roles, we can help."

Pertemps in Crewe, based in Mallard Way on the Crewe Business Park, is part of the Pertemps Network Group.

The business has an impressive track record going back 61 years and has won a string of awards and accolades.

In 2006, it won a place on the Sunday Times list, officially ranking it a 'Top 100 Employer' and has featured in this list ever since.

In 2010, it became the biggest supplier of temporary drivers in the UK and in 2014 launched the Pertemps Driving Academy to help address the national shortage of drivers.

In 2016, the Armed Forces Liaison team received the Armed Forces Covenant Gold Award for employee engagement.

The Pertemps Driver Training Academy was named as Driver Training Provider of the Year at the Talent and Logistics awards in 2018.

And this year, the company was placed 24th in the list of Best Large Companies to work for in the UK – the highest placed recruitment firm.

Sam Parsons, branch manager of the Crewe office has run the branch since it opened three-and-a-half years ago and has clients who have been with her from day one.

Sam said: "We're invested in what we do. We will help applicants and employers ensuring they both received exactly what they are looking for.

"We have an Armed Forces section and help those leaving the Armed Forces find jobs whether that be helping with their CV or helping them prepare for an interview."

The Crewe office also has a driving section which matches HGV drivers up with jobs or even puts would-be HGV drivers on the road to success with training.

Sam literally "fell in love" with her Pertemps job when she opened the Crewe branch and it's her aim, and that of her staff, to ensure applicants find a job which they 'love'.

"No two days are the same," added Sam. "We offer roles in a variety of areas and sectors.

"We've got three people on our books at the moment going through our driving academy.

"The job of a HGV driver is a highly responsible one and we believe they should be given the respect they deserve.

"They are not only responsible for their load and the vehicle but also for other motorists on the road."

And Sam says it's no longer a male-dominated area of work – women are also taking to the road as HGV drivers.

"Whatever you're looking for, whether it be a job in distribution, skilled technical, office work or driving, we're here to help you," said Sam.

The phone number to contact the Crewe office is 01270 906220 and enquiries should be made to [email protected]
