Two Crewe Regional Sunday League fixtures cancelled after positive Covid-19 test

By Gwyn Griffiths 27th Aug 2021

TOMORROW'S Crewe Regional Sunday League programme has been forced into a rearrangement after a positive Covid-19 test.

The positive result emerged after last Sunday's Premier Division fixture between Crewe Athletic and Willaston White Star, with it being understood that it is one of Willaston's players that is affected by the virus.

Both club's games have now been postponed.

Willaston WS were due to host Faddiley and Crewe Athletic were playing The Raven at home.

Regional Sunday League secretary Dave Cooper has confirmed both side's scheduled opponents will now meet each other in an alternative fixture at Faddiley's Wrexham Road pitch.

The season kicked off last Sunday with 11 games across the league's two divisions with Faddiley featuring in a nine-goal game (3-6) when hosting NHB FC.

Grassroots sports, including Sunday League football, was given the go-ahead to resume on July 17, but under a phased return with strict Covid-19 guidelines.

Leagues have been allowed to start this month after risk assessments and plans were put in place.
