Crewe Alexandra started their pre-season fixture list as the victors versus Nantwich Town - with three trialists featuring in the game and one of them bagging a goal.

The Alex faced Nantwich Town on Saturday (July 2), at the Swansway Stadium - ending up as comfortable 3-0 winners.

Crewe featured new signings Rod McDonald, Kelvin Mellor and Courtney Baker-Richardson all in the first half - they all played 45 minutes.

Manager Alex Morris also gave two trialists, who had been training with the club, the chance to impress and potentially earn a contract.

One of the trialists, Adam Wilson, scored Crewe's second goal of the afternoon - smashing home Chris Long's powerful low delivery.

The other goals came from a Scott Butler own goal and a Bassala Sambou rebound from a missed penalty.

What is Adam Wilson's football history?

Adam Wilson is a 22-year-old former Newcastle United midfielder who has primarily played on the left since coming through the Premier League sides' academy.

The left-footed player born in Ashington, Northumberland, represented Newcastle United under 18s from 2016 to 2018.

Wilson then represented Newcastle's under 23's for four years - failing to make a first-team appearance for the club.

He played as a left winger and left-back on a small number of occasions.

What is Wilson's current situation?

As of July 1 this year, Wilson was without a club - following his release from the Magpies.

The former Newcastle number 60 stands at 5'8" and scored a good goal for The Railwaymen on Saturday.

The Crewe management team will continue to assess Wilson, looking if he has the capabilities to be an Alex player this upcoming 2022/23 season.

Who is the second trialist - Chris Sang?

Trialist, Chris Sang, also played for Crewe Alex against Nantwich Town (Football Database).

As well as Wilson, Crewe gave forward player Chris Sang the chance to impress in the first pre-season fixture.

Sang has been without a club since February this year. He has been played as right winger on a small number of occasions.

The 23-year-old has made appearances for the likes of Wrexham, Bala Town and Southport - scoring six non-league goals.

Morris and his management team will continue to asses the 6'2" striker in the coming weeks.

Derby Country right-back, Kornell McDonald, was the third trialist for Crewe.

The 20-year-old who has made three appearances for The Rams, played in the second half.

The Crewe Alexandra line-ups vs Nantwich Town:
