COMMUNITY radio station The Cat 107.9FM presented its first Local Legend monthly award to a supermarket's community champion.

Angela Leighton, the community champion at ASDA Crewe, received her Cat cake from the awards sponsor, Baked by Gill, and a certificate from the station's MD Chris Cadman and presenter David Foulkes.

Angela, who is the November winner, co-ordinates all the supermarket's charitable donations and liaises with local charities who request support, including raffle prizes.

The Cat's Local Legend Award looks to recognise the work of individuals and organisations who have gone that extra mile in support of their communities. It follows on from the weekly Community Hero Award that the radio station ran earlier in the Covid-19 pandemic.

Winners are drawn out of a hat to receive a wonderful cake, Cat 107.9FM goodies and a certificate.

Chris said: "As the local community radio station we want to recognise the fantastic efforts and contributions made by the phenomenal, caring people in the area to support others less fortunate.

"Angela being the first Cat 107.9 Local Legend will be followed by many other deserving local people and groups who go that extra mile in these difficult and challenging times."

If you know someone who has gone the extra mile and deserves recognition, email your nomination with full details to [email protected].

The Cat broadcasts 24 hours a day on 107.9 FM from Cheshire College South & West to Crewe, Nantwich, Sandbach and the surrounding villages and rural areas. It is the only licensed community radio station in the area.

You can listen to The Cat on 107.9FM, ask your smart speaker for 'Cat one hundred and seven point nine' or download the new Cat app from the Android and Apple App Stores.
