Family-owned Crewe company donates £1,000 to town's community food bank

Family-owned Swansway Motor Group has donated £1,000 to Crewe's community food bank - also donating £1,000 to a food bank in Sandbach.
2022 has seen Swansway Motor Group take a refreshed approach to their charity efforts.
It's been working with charity partners in the areas local to where they do business, aiming to support families and children who are in need - along with those who have been heavily impacted by the cost-of-living crisis.
Swansway's most recent campaign has seen them reach out to foodbanks across the country to make a combined donation of food items and monetary support.
Working closely with St Paul's Pantry, Hightown and Sandbach Food Bank, Wesley Avenue - Swansway has made a donation of £1000 to each.
St Paul's Centre has been a staple of the Crewe Community for a number of years.
Originally starting out as a furniture recycling service that provided furniture to families in need, the operation at St Paul's Centre has expanded over the years.
Alongside the busy food bank the centre also runs several other services, such as a footwear service, providing free shoes to children of school age, a cycle workshop, a hospital discharge service and a project to help support adults with additional needs.
In September, the Crewe centre saw a 61 per cent increase in the number of people needing crisis food when compared to the previous month.
Alexia Stockton, Services Manager at St Paul's Centre said: "The fantastic donation of food and financial gift will help us tremendously as we head into the winter months."
Sandbach Food Bank was first set up in April 2013, working with Sandbach Families Centre for referrals.
They provide an emergency service delivering food parcels to those in financial need.
Each parcel provided has enough food for three to four days.
Now, the food bank works alongside 38 different referring agencies and has delivered over 1500 food parcels during the nine years.
Similar to St Paul's Centre, Sandbach Food Bank has seen a rise in referrals for their services.
Prior to the Covid-19 Pandemic, the foodbank made on average 2 food parcels a week - this average has now risen to seven and a half per week.
The highest number of parcels delivered in one week was as high as 15, this was in the run-up to Christmas 2021.
Food Bank manager, Karen Foster, said: "We are really grateful for this generous donation from Swansway Motor Group, this combined with the recent donations from local schools and churches during the harvest festival is a big help to us.
"The kind donation of money will help us when there aren't as many food donations coming in."

Swansway Motor Group Director David Smyth added: "As part of our ongoing charity efforts, it's crucial to us all at Swansway Motor Group that we do our best to support families in need.
"Our hope is that this donation can play a part in easing some of the uncertainty the coming months may bring to local families and provide a helping hand to the fantastic organisations who provide this service."
