Struggling Crewe swimming club secures £2,500 grant

CREWE Town Council has revealed its latest round of grants made to community organisations.
Among one of the maximum awards made under the authority's Community Grant Scheme is a £2,500 donation to Crewe Flyers swimming club, who recently revealed it is struggling to stay afloat following a rise in pool hire prices at Crewe Lifestyle Centre.
The club says it has lost around £20,000 over the past two years.
The council cash has been donated to the club's 'Rising Stars' project to pay for new coaching sessions and new equipment.
Other organisations benefiting from the grants scheme include Crewe YMCA, who get £2,315.92 to run two more 'Holiday Villages' in the Easter and May half-term breaks to enable families who are unable to go away on holiday spend time together.
Healthbox gets £2,500 to spend on improving its current facilities at its bungalow at the Sherbourne Estate Community Project, as well as paying for gardening club trips and family activities.
Friends of Crewe South 1 Alleyways is receiving £2,500 to tidy up grot spots in streets and alleyways in he south of the town plagued by overflowing bins, bags and fly-tipping.
Arts group Creative Crewe gets £1,000 to put on five events this year.
At the lower end of the awards, Crewe Male Voice Choir will use a £288 donation to pay for a soloist, accompanist, tickets and programmes for a fundraising concert.
In all 13 grants were approved from the latest round of applications paying for regeneration, events, sport development, combating social isolation and supporting families with young children and lone parents.
The Community Grant Scheme is open for applications throughout the year, with quarterly submission deadlines for applications to be considered by the community plan committee.
The next deadline for applications is midnight on Sunday, May 8.
