A Crewe pub has torn down its new parking system after admitting it was a "mistake" to paying customers, despite security concerns and "abuse" of the facility.

Set up in October, the system was aimed at tackling issues surrounding non-guests, abandoned cars and break-ins.

To apologise for the system, The White Lion Weston has offered 10 per cent off drinks for this week (November 25 to December 1) and an upcoming live music fundraiser event.

Owner, Carl Boulton, told Nub News: "There were never any bad intentions with the new parking system, it was aimed at stopping non-guests, leaving room for customers only.

"We have since realised it was definitely the wrong decision, we heard you and quickly paid £7,000 to take the parking cameras down.

"You will no longer have to input your car registration in the pub, pay for parking, and most importantly there will be no more fines.

"The cameras were not put up as a new revenue generator for the venue, it was purely down to security concerns and abuse of the car park.

"We have had non-guests come down and have cars abandoned, which people have tried to break into.

"We wanted to put a parking system in place to stop that happening, this wasn't ever a way of us even making any money.

"Following the feedback, we had to fight long and hard to get Parkingeye to take the cameras down. The cost of this fight, was more than worth it for our customers.

"Now, we would like to give back to our customers and host a special live music fundraiser event to apologise for the car parking fiasco and welcome our new staff.

"We would like to offer 10 per cent off drinks for this entire week (November 25 to December 1), as a small token of our gratitude."

Some people were leaving several cars on the car park for days at a time - an example of why the unpopular parking system was put in place.

Carl said: "My kids and team member's kids attend the local school to this pub. We are all embedded within the community - it was never our intention to isolate ourselves.

"We are open to suggestions on what local charity we should choose for the fundraiser event, taking place before Christmas.

The White Lion Weston has had a large recruitment drive with a new general manager, bar manager, supervisor, hotel staff and more starting soon (Ryan Parker).

"There will be local music acts performing with a proper festive feel. This will not be an event to miss."

"We look forward to welcoming you back to the pub."
