13 Crewe food and drink outlets have been boosted with new five-star food hygiene ratings, according to recent Food Standard Agency (FSA) reports.

The Food Standard Agency (FSA) Food Hygiene Rating Scheme, is aimed at helping people choose where to eat out or shop for food.

The FSA scheme is in partnership with local authorities in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

A five-star hygiene rating means 'hygiene standards are very good' for the business (FSA).

It gives businesses a rating from 0 to 5 - displayed at their premises and online.

A five-star hygiene rating means 'hygiene standards are very good' for the business.

All information was taken from the Food Standard Agency website as of Wednesday 2 April:

A food safety officer from Cheshire East Council inspected the Crewe eateries to check if they were following food hygiene law and ensuring the food sold was safe to eat.

Big Mugs, 251 Edleston Road, which opened in November 2024, is one of 13 Crewe food and drinks outlets to be handed a five-star hygiene rating (Ryan Parker).

At all inspections, the officer checked the following three elements:

  • How hygienically the food is handled – how it is prepared, cooked, re-heated, cooled and stored
  • The physical condition of the business –including cleanliness, layout, lighting, ventilation, pest control and other facilities
  • How the business manages ways of keeping food safe, looking at processes, training and systems to ensure good hygiene is maintained. The officer can then assess the level of confidence in standards being maintained in the future.

All 13 Crewe businesses were all rated five-star based on these checks.

Owner of Amaka's Fine Food Fusion, Amaka Lawton, told Nub News: "This five-star rating is a testament to how passionate we are about our customer's welfare and satisfaction.

"We are committed to delivering healthy meals to our customers. Congratulations to all Crewe businesses who have achieved a five-star hygiene rating."
