A new African pub and restaurant has opened in Crewe town centre, offering a place to enjoy an "authentic" meal, relax and watch live sport.

Oden Lounge, High Street, officially launched on Saturday 5 October, with the business ever growing in popularity.

Operated by husband and wife, Opeyemi and Duduyemi Opaleye, Oden Lounge open until 1am at weekends, offering African cuisine, along with cocktails, beers and more.

The Nigerian couple, who originally moved to Crewe in May 2018, have lived in Nantwich since 2021 and see South Cheshire as their "true home."

Duduyemi told Nub News: "Crewe is where our heart is. We come here for most for shopping, our children's school and of course our new business, Oden Lounge.

"I have been doing this sort of thing for 13 years now, starting off from the comfort of my house in Nigeria and then in Bolton before moving here.

"We discovered there was nothing like Oden Lounge in Crewe and were searching for a suitable unit in the town for the past four years.

"There were so many renovations to be done, but happy your dreams become a reality, it is the best feeling anyone can have.

"This is an African pub and restaurant. We are trying to have an inclusive place where everyone can enjoy.

Oden Lounge is open 3pm to 11pm (Tuesday to Thursday), 3pm to 1am (Friday), 1pm to 1am (Saturday and Sunday) (Ryan Parker).

"We offer a great variety of rich Nigerian dishes, including jollof rice, asun, pounded yam, Ofada rice, seafood, and soups, along with burgers, chicken wings and more.

"Our motto here is to deliver strong, delicious flavours people may not have tried before. It is a global world now we are showing how tasty African food is.

"As a pub/bar, open till late at weekends, we also offer a wide variety of beers, spirits, cocktails and mocktails.

"We offer an experience similar to what people know, but with a twist giving our African Oden flavour."

Oden Lounge is currently trialling its menu for three months, which along with its website, will be fully updated in January 2025.

Duduyemi said: "Initially, we didn't know about the Open in Crewe grant shame. It was a blessing in disguise.

"When our landlord told us about it It, we enquired and got everything sorted. They said nothing like this has ever come to Crewe before.

"The scheme really helped with our renovations, this building was in such a mess. There was no toilet and kitchen so we had to do all that ourselves.

"Without the grant, we wouldn't have been able to stock up or bring to Crewe what we envisioned.

"Initially on High Street, it felt like this was an isolated area, but the new park [Southern Gateway Scheme] opening in 2025, it will really open up this area and offer an attractive role from the railway station.

Oden Lounge has three designated 'zones,' for live football, a cosy area and a restaurant area (Ryan Parker).

"In the long run, we will see an increase in footfall in this area, especially with the new Crewe Youth Zone coming in 2026."

Duduyemi added: "We have divided Oden Lounge into three spaces, which we called zones, having different people in mind.

"Zone one is our pub area where you can just sit, have a drink, chit chat and enjoy the football. Zone two is the designated cosy part to relax in and enjoy music.

"Then zone three is our place to enjoy a meal, have a conversation and more.

"Everyone goes out for different reasons and we want to cater to everyone's tastes. Come down to Oden Lounge just once, and we are confident you will keep returning."
