Section of major Crewe road set for 'full closure' until end of June
A section of a major Crewe road is set for a 'full closure' until the end of June - with the next phase of the North West Crewe Package (NWCP) taking place.
The A530 Middlewich Road, between the junctions of Smithy Lane and Flowers Lane, will be fully closed from Tuesday 18 April - for 'approximately nine weeks.'
This closure allows Cheshire East's contractors, Balfour Beatty, to construct the new Flowers Lane roundabout - along with associated infrastructure.
Full signage will be in place advising motorists of the closure - scheduled to reopen on Friday 30 June.
An update in the latest Cheshire East NWCP newsletter reads: "A full closure will be put in place on A530 Middlewich Road at Flowers Lane Roundabout from Tuesday April 18 for approximately nine weeks.
"This is to allow us to construct the roundabout and associated infrastructure.
"We will be continuing with deep drainage installation along the East/West link, NorthSpine Road and Minshull New Road Roundabout.
"This will be followed by the road construction at each location.
"We will also be laying asphalt along the East/West Link Road and Flowers Lane Link Road."
The NWCP was approved in July 2019 - estimated to cost a total sum of £42 million.
This 1.8-mile stretch of road aims to reduce congestion and improve access to Leighton Hospital.
Once complete, the development will create free land for new housing developments - as well as extending the walking and cycling routes to the Hospital.
This A530 Middlewich Road closure comes after the road was shut between its junction with Pyms Lane and Smithy Lane from May 2022 until February 2023.
