Rare footage tells story of Crewe 50 years ago
What was Crewe like 50 years ago? Take a look back at the town back in 1974 with this rare footage made by Crewe college students.
Shot on Super8 cine film with no sound, the five inch reel is simply labelled "Scenes of Crewe."
It is known the film was made by students of Dane Bank College (Cheshire College - South & West), dating back to the roaring 70s.
It is believed this film was a project for the college's arts or media department.
There are four distinct "chapters" in this video, with the opening scenes featuring activity at Crewe Railway Station.
This is followed by a brief glimpse of Moreton Road as an introduction to Queens Park.
The third section features the Hilary Centre on Salisbury Avenue, now a housing estate.
It concludes with life on Nantwich Road in the area between Ruskin Road and Smallman Road, focusing on an zebra crossing which is now a set of traffic lights.
Check out the footage of Crewe from 1974 above. Happy Christmas.
