Santa enlists Crewe Town Mayor for virtual lights switch-on

By Gwyn Griffiths 25th Nov 2021

CREWE is getting ready to light up for Christmas after Town Mayor Tom Dunlop was given his instructions by Santa.

The town centre's lights will be on tomorrow (Friday) from 5pm to coincide with the launch of Lumen Lite. And while Covid has meant no traditional lights switch-on this year, an online video (above) with a humorous take on the event was released this evening.

The arts trail and lights show designed by the Blackpool Illuminations team will see some stunning projections bathing Lyceum Square and Memorial Square, as well as the Municipal Buildings and Magistrates' Court, with Christmas brightness.

Cllr Dunlop is seen in the video - made with the help of film and media students from Staffordshire University - fielding a call from Santa at the Municipal Buildings before springing into action to show his handiwork with some power cables on Memorial Square.

The town council billed the clip on social media as:

A child's Christmas wish

A town in need of Christmas spirit.

Can Santa save the day with help from the Crewe Town Mayor and Town Ranger Ron?

Note: no Town Mayors were harmed in the making of this video.

The Lumen Lite installations will be lit up until December 12 and include Aqualux, a installation of 48 water containers, the Spaceman and a TARDIS.
