Sainsbury's submits licence for new 'Local' store in Crewe village

Sainsbury's has submitted a premises licence for its new 'Local' store, set to open in a growing village on the edge of Crewe.
On Thursday 25 September, the supermarket chain applied to Cheshire East Council for a licence to provide the sale of alcohol at its new site south of Newcastle Road, Shavington.
In August, Anwyl Construction submitted proposals for the new development, adjacent to the new Shavington Park housing estate.
The new 4,000 square foot Sainsbury's Local shop will be part of a small new precinct and will be the anchor store of scheme.
Sainsbury's plans to create 20 jobs in this Shavington development, comprising a mixture of full-time and part-time roles.

Targeted to open in 2026, the new Sainsbury's Local store will be open 7am to 11pm, seven days a week, matching the premises licence application.
The premises licence application reads: "Notice is hereby given that we, Sainsbury's Supermarkets Ltd, have applied on 25 September 2025 to Cheshire East Council in respect of the premises known as Sainsbury's, Newcastle Road, Shavington, Cheshire, for a premises licence to provide the following licensable activities:
"To allow the sale of alcohol to between the hours of 7am and 11pm, for consumption off the premises."
Representations to Sainbury's application shall be made in writing to Cheshire East Council Licensing Section on or before Thursday 23 October,
