A Crewe hotel accommodating single male asylum seekers has been closed following partnership work between Cheshire Constabulary and the Home Office.

Over recent months Cheshire police have been working closely with the Home Office following reports of a number of incidents at The Crewe Arms, Nantwich Road, which have resulted in concern in the local community.

The Nantwich Road hotel accommodated approximately 115 asylum seekers until October 2025, with these numbers reducing steadily up until its closure.

A Ministerial decision has now been taken to prioritise the hotel for closure and the final resident has now left this April.

The Crewe Arms Hotel reopens to the general public from Monday 20 April.

Welcoming the closure, Cheshire Constabulary's Assistant, Chief Constable Alison Ross, said: "I want to make clear that this isn't a political stance by the Constabulary, nor is it about targeting asylum seekers.

"We have a duty to protect vulnerable people accommodated in these premises, as well as protecting residents in the wider local community.

"Over the last 12 months or so we have dealt with an unacceptable number of incidents of crime and disorder at the hotel and its immediate vicinity.

"Whilst our preference has always been that the hotel should be closed as soon as possible, we also recognise the value in co-operating with the Home Office and its contracted suppliers to manage the immediate demand on our resources.

"I would like to thank our partners at the Home Office for their cooperation and support throughout this process and I truly believe that the outcome reached is the best result for everyone."
