POLICE say they will monitor a Crewe amenity after ordering 30 youths to leave an "illegal gathering".

Officers imposed a dispersal order to clear Joey the Swan in Wistaston on Saturday night after they had gathered intelligence "a fight" might take place.

Police said the order was put in place to "protect our residents and deter any potential criminal activity".

While there were no reports of any trouble and no arrests were made local officers have promised to monitor the area going forward.

The order was operational until yesterday and a Cheshire Police spokesman said: "On Saturday, July 11 officers were informed that an illegal gathering was due to take place on Joey the Swan field in Crewe.

"As a result of the intelligence a decision was taken to issue a dispersal order under Section 34 of the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014.

"The order was put in place to prevent any criminal offences from taking place. While in attendance at the site approximately 30 youths were ordered to leave the area and not return for at least 24 hours, or face the prospect of arrest."
